Hello from Green Lake Wisconsin! 6/29/2006

The updated website, which I am still so excited about, is in its final stages.  With this change I will also be changing the look of the newsletters, so please bear with me and help me out.  Anytime you feel that the newsletter doesn't have what you are looking for let me know.

New banners will be going up in the downtown area with our new logo.  If you should see them let me know what you think.

Below is up-to-date information on what the Green Lake Area Chamber Committees are doing (Please, keep in mind that these are only some of our Committees)…

Summer Solstice:  Green Lake's Big Fun Filled Pajama Party was Saturday, June 17, 2006.  Everyone seemed to be having a good time until the downpour of rain just after the 9pm Bed Race Demonstration.  If it would have just waiting one more hour the event would have been over-oh well that's Wisconsin!
Jar Guess:  There were many winners of all the different jar guesses in the participating businesses.  Congratulations to all those good guessers.  I know that most were off by only a few numbers.
Cookie Contest:  Annie Barrett won first place, Jennifer Tessone won second place, and Cari Sauter won third place BUT I think that the real winners are the judges (Joe Parise, Mike Wuest, and Mike Ratter) who get to taste each one.
Cutest Pajamas and/or Bedroom Slipper Contest:  The judges (Sharon Timm, Carl Hruza, and Jeff Shadick) had a hard time picking the child's category for cutest pajama winners because they were all so cute (as you can see by the photo of just a few of them).  Green Lake's City Council Member, Luann Mirr-Frank was the first place winner for the cutest pajama and bedroom slipper contest with last year's returning winner Ann Houghton coming in second place for the cutest pajama and bedroom slipper.
Bed Racing:  The demonstration went well until that downpour, which cancelled everything else including the Howl at the Moon Contest.
The Giant Green Lake Gift Basket (1st place valued at $1,000, 2nd place valued at $650, 3rd place valued at $500) winners were Hank Grams, Steve Lawson and Jennifer Tessone.  What lucky people!

“Concerts in the Park”:   The first concert of the series was Norrie Cox & His New Orleans Stompers on June 21 There will be a July 5th concert with the 84th Division Army Reserve.  All the concerts (10 in all including the UW Marching Band on Family Picnic Night) are included on the calendar of events on our website.  As in past years our fundraisers include; concessions, the Family Picnic Night (July 19) and a commemorative button for $10.00 ($1.00 per concert).  The bands are helping us promote our buttons by donating prizes that can be won by button wearers during thier concerts.

Green Lake's 4th of July Celebration:  July 4th is a fun filled day with breakfast stating at 7:30 (American Legion Hall), food & beverages, pie & ice cream social, funnel cakes, sweet corn, petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, farmers market, games, live entertainment stating at 2pm, duck races stating at 3pm, parade at 5pm and fireworks at dusk.  All the activities will take place in Playground Park or Deacon Mills Park.  Fireworks will be done off a barge in Dartford Bay.

Chalk Art Festival:  2nd Annual Chalk Art Festival scheduled for July 15 (rain date July 16) from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Judging at 5 p.m.  There will be food and refreshments, face painting and fun.  There is a pre-registration form on-line at www.headforgreenlake.com/chalkart.htm or you can use the link on our homepage.  We had 22 participants last year and everyone had a great time.

Golden Days Harvest Festival:  The Committee had their first meeting for this year.  I have listed some things that you may be interested in now.  We have over half of our 100 craft spaces full.  If you know of anyone who makes great handmade crafts please let them know that our craft fair is juried and they are accepting only unique handmade crafts.  You can pre-register for the Antique/Classic Car Show and the Parade.  Just call and let us know if you would like the forms sent to you.

Green Lake has other activities going on, along with places to shop, dine, stay, play and many great sights to enjoy (like our beautiful lake).

Until next time, take care & we hope to see you soon!
