Hello from Green Lake Wisconsin! 7/27/2006

I cannot believe that we have only one more month before school starts.  Where does the time go!  History is repeating itself.  We were having a hot and dry summer again.  We did finally get some well-needed rain this week.

New banners are up in the downtown area with our new logo.  If you should see them, please let me know what you think.  New Chamber signage is being worked on and should be up before Golden Days.

Below is up-to-date information on what the Green Lake Area Chamber Committees are doing (Please, keep in mind that these are only some of our Committees)…

Green Lake's 4th of July Celebration:  July 4th was a fun filled day.  Everything was great; parade games, rides, music, food, weather and the Fireworks display off a barge on the lake in Dartford Bay.  We were told that it was a perfect down home festival.  The Chamber is solely responsible for the fireworks and donations and again this year we did not cover the expense.  We really want to continue this tradition so the Chamber is still accepting donations toward the 2006 fireworks.  If you came and enjoyed this event and would like to help out please send your donation to Green Lake Area Chamber, PO Box 337, Green Lake, WI  54941-0337.  Photos are located on the recent photo page and also in photo tour/4th of July.

Chalk Art Festival:  2nd Annual Chalk Art Festival held on July 15, one of the hottest days of the year.  There was food and refreshments along with face painting.  There were approximately 33 participants, which decorated our street with such beautiful artwork.  The first picture displayed on this page is of the winning business artwork done by Robin Wallenfang for Wallenfangs of Green Lake.  She will have her artwork and article in the 2007 Green Lake Magazine. The second picture displayed on this page is the 1st place Adult winner, which will be on the 2007 Chalk Art Festival t-shirts.  Should you want the 2006 Chalk Art Festival t-shirts they are available at the Chamber Office and also at the new Green Lake Local Arts Gallery located at 524 Mill Street.  More photos are located on the recent photo page and also in photo tour/Chalk Art Festival.

“Concerts in the Park”:   The UW Marching Band on Family Picnic Night along with the regular concert with Kings Comets was a hit.  It did rain a little but that did not detour anyone from enjoying themselves.  The Concerts in the Park buttons are going fast, thanks to the bands donating prizes for button wearers during their concerts.  Don't forget wear your button or purchase one (August 2, 9, or 16), register at each concert you go to, and sit back and enjoy.  Congratulations to the previous button wearing winners!  The Green Lake High School is also doing a fundraiser by having a brat fry next to Connections Coffee & Specialty Gifts on the same nights as our concerts.

Golden Days Harvest Festival:  The Committee had their first meeting for this year.  I have listed some things that you may be interested in.  Over half of our 100 crafters spaces are filled.  If you know of anyone who makes great handmade crafts please let him/her know that our craft fair is juried and that we are accepting unique handmade crafts.  You can pre-register for the Antique/Classic Car Show and the Parade.  Just call and let us know if you would like the forms sent to you or stop in at the Chamber Office at 550 Mill Street.

Other Green Lake activities going on in August; Green Lake County Jr. Free Fair on August 3-6, Fine Art Show on August 12 & 13, and so much more--check out the Calendar of Events.  Also Green Lake has great places to shop, dine, stay, play and many sights to enjoy.

Until next time, take care & we hope to see you soon!
