Hello from Green Lake Wisconsin! 9/28/2006

Fall is in the air; leaves are already starting to change, cool/cold mornings and warmish afternoons.

Things that happened in September...
Wisconsin Chili Cook Off:  Sponsored by the Green Lake Rotary held on September 9 had a great turn out.  The weather was just perfect for Chili.  The winners were as follows: 1st place went to Warren Fowler from Green Bay, WI; 2nd place went to Dick Austin from Sherwood, WI; 3rd place went to Ed O'Hare from Wauwatosa, WI; People's Choice went to last year's winner, Swamp Lake Chili from Westfield, WI; Spicy Award went to Dan Kolter from Wautoma, WI; Showmanship Award went to Robert Walsh from Burr Ridge, IL and the top bidding for a quart of the winner's chili was $135.00.
Golden Days Harvest Festival:  Sponsored by the Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, held on September 23 & 24.  Was great fun!  Both days had more than enough to keep a person satisfied-with food, beverages, petting zoo, rides, games, farm market, craft fair (only a small sample of crafters are pictured here), live entertainment, clowns, contests, face painting, and more.  The parade was wonderful on Saturday, even in the rain.  Sunday was a gorgeous day, with great food-breakfast and lunch, cool cars, and everything Saturday offered with SUNSHINE!  There were 77 raffle winners this year.  The top 3 are as follows: Mark Janowski won 1st place-$1,000.00 in Green Lake Chamber Gift Certificates; Moises won 2nd place-Green Lake Weekend (a great package with 2 nights lodging at Miller's Daughter Bed & Breakfast, Breakfast & Escapade Tour at the Heidel House Resort, Lunch at Adam's Rib, Dinner at Norton's of Green Lake, Tickets to a concert at Thrasher Opera House, Golf at Tuscumbia Country Club and a Gift Basket from Mill Street Junction); Paul Karras won 3rd place-$300.00 in Green Lake Chamber Gift Certificates.  Marge Bostelmann was our Honorable Parade Marshal and Karyn Rabenhorst was crowned 2006 Harvest Fest Princess.

Things happening in October...
October Women's Month (October 1-31):  Green Lake's official month for women as proclaimed by the Mayor of Green Lake, Joseph Parise - Click here to view the proclamation.   The Green Lake sponsored event for Women's Night Out has been cancelled for October 7, 2006, BUT there is a calendar with activities and specials/discounts on the back for the month of October.  This Calendar along with the specials/discounts will be on display at the Green Lake Area Chamber Office along with flyers in our outdoor rack.  Should you want one sent to you please reply back with "Please send an October Calendar to...(your mailing address)" and we will send it out immediately.  For those who just want to take a look - the October Calendar will be available on-line after October 3rd.

Just to give you a heads up...
Christmas by the Lake will be held on Saturday, December 2 with a few changes for 2006.  Watch for more details in next month's Newsletter!
