Hello from Green Lake Wisconsin! 10/31/2006

I hope that everyone received the last enews about the Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce finally having our new Visitor site at www.visitgreenlake.com and that you were able to check it out.  Thank you to those who responded back with your comments and anyone else wanting to share their thoughts please feel free to email me at info@visitgreenlake.com.

Looking back on last year's e-newsletter the leaves were all just changing colors at this time now most of the trees have lost their leaves already.

For those who follow the Green Lake sports--The Lakers went to the play-offs for the very first time.  We congratulate them on a great season!

We had a lot of activities going on during October Women's Month.  Just to highlight some...
There was live entertainment every Friday and Saturday at different businesses, tours were offered at Green Lake Local Arts Gallery, Leslie Trewyn Studio, and even at the Green Lake Area Animal Shelter.  Classes were offered for creating Christmas/Holiday cards and Art (Watercolor & Draw/Paint).  Thrasher Opera House had Ladies Must Swing perform in honor of October Women's Month.  There were a few Halloween Parties to go to on Saturday, October 28.  Also we cannot forget the many generous Green Lake businesses that offered Specials/Discounts during October Women's Month.  If anyone was able to enjoy the happenings during October Women's Month please feel free to share your experience(s).  Also if you have any suggestions for next year please feel free to share those also by emailing me at info@visitgreenlake.com.  The October Women's Month Committee will be having a follow-up meeting on November 17, 2006 and could really use your feedback.  I would also like to note that the Green Lake Area Chamber's own Dusty Walker, Executive Director, was the first in a series of four Green Lake-area women to be featured in the Green Lake Reporter during October Women's Month.

The next and final event of the year for the Green Lake Chamber is Christmas by the Lake, which will be held on Saturday, December 2.  The following is planned...Santa will hand out treats, share story time at Caestecker Public Library, have lunch at the Goose Blind and listen to your Christmas wish lists.  The Green Lake businesses will be decorated for Christmas to see who will win the traveling trophy from Adam's Rib.  There will be a coloring contest for preschool through third grades and all entries will be displayed at the Caestecker Public Library either on their walls, windows or Christmas tree.  Festival of Wreaths, Silent Auction, Gift-Wrapping Contest and Live Entertainment will be featured at Thrasher Opera House.  Those interested in the Gift-Wrapping Contest, drop off your wrapped box at Thrasher Opera House by 10am.  Judging is done by People's Choice and Prizes awarded!  Just to give you ideas, pictured is last year's winning box.  Harbor Lights will host the Sweet Shop along with the Holiday Cookie Contest.  Those interested in participating in the Holiday Cookie Contest...bring in a dozen cookies on a wrapped disposable plate (decorated nicely may sway the judges) along with your recipe attached and three cookies in a bag for judging to Harbor Lights from 9-10am-Prizes awarded!  Boy Scouts will be Scouting for Toys, so now would be a great time to go through those gently use toys or to generously purchase new toys and drop them off at the Chamber Office at 550 Mill Street from 10am-2pm.  Love Lights can be purchased for $1 each to dedicate a light on the City's Christmas tree in memory of a loved one as well as recognize important people in your life.  Names will be read during the Love Lights Dedication.  The last day to purchase Love Lights would be November 30, 2006.  For those who want to attend a Christmas Card Making Workshop there will be one offered during Christmas by the Lake.  Two Chez will host Work of Human Hands sale. The Green Lake High School Seniors will have a Second Time Around Sale to help raise funds for their New York/Washington trip from 10am-3pm.  Then at the end the day The Heartland Band (formerly the Fox River String Band) will perform their sixth annual Christmas Show; a concert and sing-along.  The concert starts at 7:30pm, call Thrasher Opera House for tickets.  More information to follow next month.

Other Green Lake activities going on can be found on our Calendar of Events.  As always, Green Lake has great places to shop, dine, stay, play and many great sights to enjoy.

Until next time, take care & we hope to see you soon!
