BIG GREEN LAKE UPDATE - We now have good ice off the east end of the lake. Off Horner's is still shaky the ice is building but the problem now are pressure cracks that are very active with open water in spots around cracks. There is still open water just past Sandstone Pt. and to the west. You can get to deeper water off Horner's Landing but be sure you know current conditions of the ice. Most are walking out but some are starting to go with atv's, you better use extreme caution here.
FISHING REPORT: Lake Trout are on a very good bite mostly off the East end in 40 to 90 feet of water. The Lake Trout are really feeding on some small Whitebass & Perch that are cruising the deeper waters off the East end. This makes them a little tough at times with all that steak & lobster they have to eat but they can catch your bite easier then the live stuff. And we are getting some very nice Laker's at this time. Small silver jigs fished close to bottom have been best. Also live small Whitebass or Perch will work.
NORTHERN: There has been some good Northern action coming off the east end. Everyday is different with some days better then others. As is most fishing. Tip-ups fished with med. minnows or small live whitebass are best. Fish 8 to 30 feet of water.
BLUEGILLS: Backwaters and bays have been very slow for Bluegills at this time. May want to try the main lake out from Dartford Bay area.
PERCH: May want to try 50 to 65 feet of water for the bigger Perch. You will get the small ones but there are some bigger 8 to 10 inch size showing up also. Ice jigs tipped with waxworms or minnows are best.
WHITE BASS: Some bigger Whitebass have been showing up off the South-East side of the lake mainly early am or late pm. Fish 30 to 45 feet of water. Jigs in the schools best here.
***AGAIN USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN OUT ON BIG GREEN LAKE'S ICE. KNOW THE CONDITIONS WHERE YOU ARE GOING ON THE LAKE.
